Garden planning and design cont’d

Start a garden and find ways to help your community produce food...

For this plot, we created five (5) different gardens in one with a focus on biodiversity.  We decided to go this route because all of us must open our minds to new ideas and ways of thinking to solve our current problems.  Also we wanted to challenge people that believe gardening/farming cannot be done without monoculture rows.  If the localized food revolutions are to be sustained, then we humans must throw away the notion of monoculture rows and non–diverse gardening, and use more efficient and natural ways to produce food.  In doing so, we will also have to look differently at 34 sq. ft.—the size of our bed—of space and see it as unlimited possibilities only limited by imagination!

In late April, we updated our design to include more warm weather crops that were compatible with the ones already sown.  On the next page there is a picture of the garden taken in early June.
